ADVENTURE CAMP PROGRAM
The school camp program for sixth grade students is known as the Adventure Camp Program and is the last outdoor education experience for our elementary students. It functions in the same manner as the fifth grade camp program except that the activities are different. The program is closely aligned with elements of the Family Consumer Science curriculum that relate to team-building, decision making, and character education. The students participate in a series of adventure activities that expose them to reasonable challenges and place them in situations where they must communicate with each other and work together to bring about a positive and successful experience.
These activities include participating on a state of the art ropes course built in 2003 and climbing wall as an individual camper as well as climbing up and over an outdoor wall and beam as a member of a group. In addition, the campers participate in outdoor recreation skill activities: canoeing on the lake, cookouts, and orienteering.
The Battle Creek Public Schools have long been committed to providing unique outdoor education experiences for its elementary students. The school district believes that well educated students will be prepared to appreciate and enjoy our natural environment for its beauty and its recreational opportunities and be able to better understand the relationship between living things and our environment.
